Letter to the One I Hurt

by Gus Castillo

I am sorry.
I never meant to hurt.
When one is drowning, one can only sense
what one sees around oneself
and to fill my empty space
I reached out and touched you.
To fill my ego,
quench my insecurities,
I reached out and touched you.

And now for forgiveness,
to drown repent and despair
for the hurt I caused and received...
for resolution...
for absolution...
do I now through thoughts only, reach out again to you.
Not to touch.
Not to hurt again.
But rather to ask for forgiveness and regain,
my humanity from this pool of shame.

Notes from Gus: Story behind the poem - What I wish I could share with the one I impacted. It expresses my desire to come clean, to explain not condone, to heal me and the harmed.
