Meet the Moderator
Dr. Brashani Reece is the Executive Director of Drop LWOP New England and a survivor of attempted murder. Her path to advocacy began when she realized the legal system's focus on permanent punishment offered no path to her own healing, leading her to seek a justice rooted in the belief that redemption is always possible. Dr. Reece holds a doctorate in forensic psychology, specializing in violence, dangerousness, and the developmental needs of child and emerging adult populations. A certified restorative justice facilitator, she has spent over twelve years working within the carceral system, witnessing the transformative power of accountability firsthand.
Meet the Panelists
Jacqueline Miller is the founder and president of Healthy Actions Intervening Responsibly (H.A.I.R.), a trauma-informed initiative transforming how communities respond to childhood trauma. An internationally recognized advocate and survivor, Jacqueline brings over 30 years of experience in violence prevention and empowerment. She is also a multi-hyphenate artist who creates healing-centered art for survivors of childhood sexual trauma, honoring resilience and offering hope. A recent recipient of an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities, she is recognized for her contributions to creative scholarship and community-centered healing and wellness. "As a practitioner of the sixth principle of Kwanzaa, Kuumba, it is a delight to make my community more beautiful than I inherited it. This is a gift to Mother Earth and oncoming generations."
Ben Johnson is a writer, performer, and former union leader with a deep commitment to storytelling and advocacy. Raised in the aftermath of the Oklahoma Dust Bowl, his journey has taken him from conservative evangelical roots to becoming a prominent voice in labor organizing and the arts. As the former President of AFT Vermont and the Vermont AFL-CIO, Ben led significant campaigns, including organizing early childhood educators. His acclaimed memoir, Fury & Grace, explores themes of addiction and resilience, while Finding the Pearl in the Storm adapts classic strategies for modern union efforts. Ben is the founder of the blog hoanthropos.com. He can also be found on his YouTube channel and on TikTok @trailtothewesternlands. His one-man show, My Testimony: Fury & Grace, debuted in 2024, captivating audiences with its revival-style format. With degrees in Philosophy from Boston University and Library & Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma, Ben blends insight and inspiration in his work.
